The Institute of Financial Technology of the School of Economics and Information Engineering was established in 2017. It was formerly the Institute of Financial Information Technology of the School of Economics and Information Engineering. There are 6 full-time teachers in the institute, including 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 6 postgraduate tutors and 5 doctoral degree holders. Finance is the key construction discipline and advantageous subject of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. As an important part of the school's major financial discipline, the Institute of Financial Science and Technology is mainly responsible for the personnel training of the Master of Finance in the College of Finance and the scientific research and social service work in the field of finance.


The research team is a capable research team with a long-term commitment to scientific research and talent development in finance related fields. He has been responsible for more than 10 national natural science fund projects, national social science fund projects, national education ministry projects, various scientific research projects in Sichuan Province, and other national and provincial-level vertical projects as well as a number of school-level scientific research projects and educational teaching projects. . The Institute also maintains contact and communication with domestic and foreign financial regulatory authorities, financial institutions, financial services companies and brother research institutes. Based on these scientific research and social services, the Institute is able to provide a more solid foundation for graduate student training.


The goal of the master's degree in finance is to cultivate interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary financial talents. Students can use the interdisciplinary theory and methods to understand the real financial phenomenon on the basis of proficiency in mainstream economics and finance theory and methods, to solve specific financial problems, especially the ability of various emerging financial fields, to meet the needs of the society for all kinds of high-end composite and innovative financial talents.


In line with the training objectives, the Institute has set three research directions for graduate students in finance:


(a) Payment economy and internet finance. The research direction is backed by the China University of Finance and Economics China Payment System Research Center and the Internet Finance Innovation and Supervision Sichuan 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, focusing on the theoretical research and collaborative innovation of modern payment systems and Internet finance innovation. The core courses are mainly payment economics, internet finance research, payment instrument theory and services, mobile payment, digital currency and distributed accounting technology.


(b) Financial risk management. The research direction focuses on financial systemic risk and its macro-prudential supervision, micro-financial risk identification, measurement and supervision, financial institutions and financial market risk management. The core courses mainly include financial risk management, computational finance, financial stochastic processes, and systematic risk management research based on complex networks.


(c) Financial technology services. The ever-changing scientific and technological innovation promotes the deepening of financial innovation. The combination of the two brings more new financial service models. The research focuses on the important theoretical issues and important practical issues in the cross-sector of financial technology from the perspective of financial services. The core courses mainly include financial technology services, quantitative transactions, blockchain technology and its applications, mobile payments, and financial data mining.


In addition to the professional direction courses, the Institute has also designed two common compulsory courses of financial economics and economic research methods for various research directions, as well as the general tool class of Python language and its application, so that students can master financial affairs. On the basis of learning basic theories and methods, more new research tools can be used to engage in scientific research and social work.
